Fr Ripperger, while he’s spot-on in many areas with regards to the issues surrounding diabolical oppression, he’s got it completely wrong when he says “genetically, we are not improving, we are on an entropic collision course…..we are decaying as a species”. I say to that, hey, wait a minute…while that – the whole idea of genetic entropy – might be consistent in some respects with some of the more perverse theories stemming from the Darwinian evolutionary rubric, and more specifically those espousing a crude Social Darwinism linked-in with a grossly nihilistic biological determinism, it is actually contrary to Catholic teaching on the nature and scope of the redemption process. I cannot understand why too, Fr Ripperger says this genetic entropy thing is in contradiction with the tenets of Darwinistic evolution!?? I don’t think so because the ideological basis of “the survival of the fittest” actually believes that fallen nature has the last word as it is a very unRedemptive nihilistic philosophy, since it says because nature is inherently flawed, there needs to be a mechanistic way, while accepting and running with that flawed state, to use it to ‘our so-called advantage’ by manufacturing or concocting a society of unequals where a master race manipulates and uses to its advantage the slave labour of those it deems its ‘underlings’ by the imposing and the living out of the perverse theory of eugenics. That is a hellish ideal! And it has been promoted by one of the most hideous regimes to have ever scoured the face of the Earth, and we all know that it was the Nazi party in Germany who promoted such a farsical notion about human existence to the point of using it as a political, an ideological tool of terror, tyranny, mayhem, and thereby strategically ‘licencing’ the murder of millions.

The other thing Fr Ripperger doesn’t realize is that we’re still living in the last days of the Old Era, we are in the Liquid Phase, as referenced to by Pope Benedict XVI when he spoke about our collective existence in the now-time being as a “liquid world”. So this means that in this phase everything is in the mode of constant changability where both the Church and world are in a formless void state in some respects similar to how in the Book of Genesis, we see the shape of things just prior to God forming the Earth – He shaped it from a mass of swirling waters, from a formless void. In our now time we are spiritually and to a certain degree, physically in a repetition if you like of that pre-creation state, waiting to be re-created anew. In this “waiting” though, we are evolving as pilgrims towards this realization of the New Man, the reflection of the New Adam born in us. Our celebration of Christmas is also an anticipation of this. The heralding of that New Era of Christ’s Peace reigning upon the Earth as has never ever happened before. For Christmas is not only a celebration of something which has gone before us, that long-awaited first coming of the Messiah in the Flesh but it is also fundamentally a lot more than this, for His first coming predicates the New Era of His second.

And sure, the reality is and has been since Genesis 3, that the Fall of Adam and Eve set into motion this cavalcade of entropy, this death cycle….ok, I get that this is part of the fallen nature. However, as Christ’s followers, we have put on the new nature which means that essentially, we are to walk not in the way or path of the old nature, the fallen nature but we are to conscientiously forge our way out of the fallen realm, out of the grasp of this henious thing that seeks to hold us back from fulfilling the sum-total of our God-given destinies and potential. And this also means we are as St Paul said, to “fight the good fight” and this means to actually follow Christ’s footsteps by taking back (in our own personal lives and in and for the sake of our own personal and even to some extent familial or collective histories) the keys of life and death from the devil. We are to reject the option to live under the curses of Adam and Eve and instead we are to seek diligently to be clothed with the blessings of the New Adam (Jesus Christ) and the New Eve (Mary, the Mother of God)* and this applies just as much to the physical aspect of our existence inasmuch as it applies to the other integral aspects, for we are meant to function as a unified whole – mind, body, and spirit. The Lord exhorts us to treat our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit and so, in view of the Church’s teaching regarding the sanctity of life, we have a sacred obligation to do so. To do otherwise when we are in a position to know better would amount to both a sin of omission and a spiritual calumny of sorts, more in the sense of bearing a false witness about the nature of our faith relative to how we are supposed to live life for the sake of the integral moral good. The Gnostic heretics were renowned for promoting such an egregious calumny against life by insisting that the physical world as such was inherently ‘evil’. Instead of going down this decadent path of the Gnostics, we are called to embrace God’s offering of such an immense grace, a grace that is to be found in the beautiful immensity of His created order by simply recognizing the sanctity of life with the eyes of faith, in and through how we live our lives. We are exhorted scripturally to walk in the newness of life in both our temporal life and its co-relational spiritual life. This is key to the outworking of our own sanctification and is indicative of a gracious response on our part to the salvation Jesus has offered.

The entire premise of the devotion to finding and abiding in the Divine Will, is based upon the understanding that contrary to the dictates of the fallen nature, we are to strive against it (this fallen nature) on all levels, with the help of God’s grace of course as this “striving” ought not to be done by the efforts of our own human will-power alone. And this also corresponds to the building up of God’s kingdom here on this earth for as our faith teaches us, at some point before the Omega Point, that is, before the Second Coming of Christ in Glory, there will open out before us a New Era. This is known as the Imminent and Glorious Reign of Christ’s Peace on Earth, and the dawning of this New Era of Christ’s Heavenly Reign on Earth precedes the Final Conflict, the Last Judgement and the Coming of Christ to Earth as Victorious over all that is contrary to Him, to the Life He has created, and to God’s law of holiness. This New Era (otherwise known as the Millennial Reign of Christ) that will precede Christ’s Second Coming in the Flesh, will be a 1000 year long reign of Christ here on Earth but He will still not yet be physically present here. Rather, He will exact and effect His reign from Heaven above and during this time, man’s entire existence is renewed to reflect that of the New Adam and the New Eve. The rest of creation also has a share in this renewal. It is a period where the message contained in our 2nd Sunday of Advent’s reading from Isaiah 11 : 1- 10 is fulfilled:

On that day, a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse,
and from his roots a bud shall blossom.
The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him:
a spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
a spirit of counsel and of strength,
a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD,
and his delight shall be the fear of the LORD.
Not by appearance shall he judge,
nor by hearsay shall he decide,
but he shall judge the poor with justice,
and decide aright for the land’s afflicted.
He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth,
and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.
Justice shall be the band around his waist,
and faithfulness a belt upon his hips.
Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb,
and the leopard shall lie down with the kid;
the calf and the young lion shall browse together,
with a little child to guide them.
The cow and the bear shall be neighbors,
together their young shall rest;
the lion shall eat hay like the ox.
The baby shall play by the cobra’s den,
and the child lay his hand on the adder’s lair.
There shall be no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain;
for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the LORD,
as water covers the sea.
On that day, the root of Jesse,
set up as a signal for the nations,
the Gentiles shall seek out,
for his dwelling shall be glorious.
